'I tried the most expensive burger in London – the price makes people wince'

A man tried the most expensive burger you can buy in London and people can’t get over the price.

Content creator Carmie Sellitto often posts videos on social media testing out expensive food products. He recently took a trip to Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in the luxury London department store Harrods where he ordered a burger for £85.

The pricey 1849 Burger contains a Wagyu beef patty, pecorino cheese, mushroom ragu, truffle porcini aioli, 12-year-aged balsamic vinegar and watercress, with a serving of truffle parmesan fries. Carmie posted an Instagram reel where he shared his verdict on the burger.

He said: “Honestly seeing the burger in front of me felt so overwhelming but it’s probably because I spent £85 on it so if you could show any kind of support to this video that would be amazing. The truffle fries, by the way, were so good. I rate them ten out of ten.

“I have really high hopes for the burger. It’s time to cut the burger in half so you guys can see how it looks on the inside.” Carmie joked: “I mean it looks okay but there’s no gold in there.”

He took his first bite of the burger and said the taste was “not that good” and he was “so disappointed.” Not giving up yet, he took four more bites to see if he was “tripping” but he realised he wasn’t and it “just didn’t taste that good.”

As he didn’t enjoy the burger, he didn’t have a clean plate at the end of the meal and to make matters worse, his bottle of still mineral water alone cost £6.95. Carmie’s total bill set him back £132.44, including a 12.5% service charge.

In the Instagram reel he visibly looks “so sad” and he described it as “really bad bad” for him overall. His post, uploaded on Thursday (February 13) has garnered 656,000 views, more than 6,900 likes and hundreds of comments.

There were many comments about the price of the burger with remarks such as “£85 on a burger should be illegal” and “no burger is worth £85.” One user said: “It didn’t even look that good”, agreeing with Carmie’s negative feedback.

Another added: “Obscene amount of money, definitely not justified.” A different user shared the same opinion that £85 for a burger cannot be justified.

They commented: “How good can a burger get? They are usually delicious but how much more delicious can they be for £45 more than an average one? I struggle to see how this price can be justified!”

A further user pointed out: “Just because something is overpriced doesn’t mean it’s good - happens time and time again in London especially.” Others said the eye-watering price of the burger is because you are “paying for the brand” rather than the food, highlighting that Gordon Ramsay is a celebrity chef and restaurant owner.

However, someone else encouraged people not to “write off” celebrity restaurants. They shared: “Been to at least 4 Gordon Ramsay spots and they were all stellar. Some of the best meals of my life actually. Ordered nice cuts of meat though, Wagyu filet, Wellington, lamb chops.

“Not ordering a freaking burger at a place like those and def not an £85 burger. Had a burger, though at Bobby Flay’s spot in Atlantic City and that was great too.

“A little pricey but was worth it. I know some places are gimmicky and trash but you don’t want to write off everybody, you’d be doing yourself a disservice.”

A fan of Gordon Ramsay commented on Carmie’s Instagram post: “Well Gordon rocks, I would just love this.” Another user said: “It looks delicious!”

The celebrity chef’s restaurant in Harrods is the first Gordon Ramsay Burger outside of Las Vegas and the “only one of its kind in the UK”. Located on the fourth floor of the department store, it serves up “100% UK heritage beef parties" as well as chicken, seafood and vegetarian options.
