WrestleMania 41 night two RESULTS: John Cena WINS record-breaking 17th world title as major star misses show - while two titles change hands amid shock return

Proper news from Britain - News from Britain you won’t find anywhere else. Not the tosh the big media force-feed you every day!

  • WWE hosted WrestleMania 41 in Vegas, with night two taking place on Sunday
  • Cena main evented the show against Cody Rhodes, earning a controversial win
  • Fans were left split on the main event, but the show impressed on the whole

WWE wrapped up WrestleMania in controversial fashion on Sunday night, as John Cena became a record-breaker in winning his 17th world championship.

A villainous Cena cemented his status as the greatest of all time as he went clear of Ric Flair as the man with the most world titles ever, as he dethroned Cody Rhodes on the back of interference from Travis Scott.

But where was The Rock? Cena's new ally missed the show, having not been seen since he helped Cena earlier this year.

Elsewhere, a major star returned to partner Lyra Valkyria in the women's tag team championship match, while two titles changed hands overall on the show.

But who won what? How did the show go? And where does WWE go next?

Mail Sport's Alex McCarthy was at the Allegiant Stadium to break down the action from the second night.

Iyo Sky (c) vs Bianca Belair vs Rhea Ripley - WWE Women's World Championship

Loud, intense boos for Bianca Belair once again and they've followed her all weekend. In a matchup with three babyfaces, it seemed as though the fans decided who the bad guy was going to be.

Very inventive action from the get-go here as Sky proved to be the conduit to the majority of spots keeping all three women involved. So agile, so talented; her moonsault from the apron to the outside drew gasps of awe from the crowd.

A trio of suplexes from Belair on Sky into a kip-up allowed the EST to tell the crowd what she thinks of their boos. On the outside, a failed hurricanrana allowed Belair and Ripley to team up and throw Sky into the barricade.

Belair hit a 450 splash, Sky kicked out of a Riptide before Ripley broke up a pin on Sky after she ate K.O.D. The action was relentless and truly top of the line - this was a generational WrestleMania opener.

Sky went for a reverse frankensteiner from the top rope on Ripley, but the Aussie countered it at the last minute and sent her head into the turnbuckle.

Belair dragged Ripley down and after both evading each other's finishers, Belair used her hair as a weapon - fully prepared to cheat to win (though legal in a triple-threat) - and landed the K.O.D. on Ripley. However, Sky hit her moonsault on Belair to break up the pin and then secure her own 1-2-3 for the win.

Absolutely sensational. That will rank among the all-time great WrestleMania openers. They knocked that out of the park.

Drew McIntyre vs Damien Priest - Sin City Street Fight

Two huge units went to battle in a street fight to follow the women and it might have been the perfect tonic to the non-stop, electric opener.

A suplex up the ramp from McIntyre was the first big blow landed. The pair exchanged shots with the almighty steel steps (they are actually heavier than you think) before McIntyre took time to take a selfie with a downed Priest.

Inside the ring, the weapons came out to play. Priest went to work on McIntyre with a chair as a table laid ominously in the background. As the Scot scaled the top rope, Priest picked him up for a Razor's Edge through said table.

Drew recovered to hit a futureshock DDT on the steel steps as the action got progressively more violent. When Priest attempted to go Old School like The Undertaker and walk the top rope, McIntyre threw him to the outside and through some set-up tables. Absolute carnage.

The finish came after McIntyre nailed a Claymore on Priest right into a chair in the corner and secured the pinfall victory. Both men delivered a very, very entertaining fight.

Bron Breakker (c) vs Penta vs Dominik Myserio vs Finn Balor - Intercontinental Championship

WrestleMania started with two great matches in a row and there was a no way a match with this level of talent was going to be the first dud of the night.

The action got underway just as fast as the two matches before it with Penta soaring through the air and Bron Breakker meeting him with a spear mid-air. Dirty Dom got the same treatment.

Breakker, the defending champion, then German suplexed both Penta and Dom at the same time. Mysterio managed to hit the three amigos on Penta with the help of Balor as the Judgement Day started working together in earnest.

That was until Breakker suplexed them both. The crowd popped huge when Dom Mysterio finally went for Balor and attempted to land a 619, but Balor cut him off at the last second.

Carlito was going to help his Judgement Day brothers and put Penta through a table, but he was promptly speared through a table by Breakker and put out of commission.

Back in the ring, Dom hit a 619 on the champion only for Balor to interrupt. He hit the Coup de Grace, but Dom followed with a frog splash to steal the victory, much to the delight of the Las Vegas crowd.

Randy Orton vs ????

After Kevin Owens was forced to miss WrestleMania, Randy Orton was forced to look for an opponent on just a few weeks' notice and issued an open challenge.

TNA champion Joe Hendry answered his call. The crowd went absolutely ballistic for the Scot and Orton sold his entrance perfectly.

In the ring, it was a mechanical affair with Hendry hitting Orton with a neckbreaker and a fallaway slam to really hold his own.

Posing after the slam with his Hollywood smile, Orton stole in for an RKO out of nowhere to secure a relatively quick win.

The legendary Orton did pick Hendry up to celebrate with him and parade him to the 60,000-plus crowd in a real heartwarming moment. A rub that Hendry will never forget. But he did have to eat a second RKO for his troubles! RKO hit his pose Hendry style to close a very well done segment.

AJ Styles vs Logan Paul

This was a battle of a megastar influencer with a huge following versus one of the best actual wrestlers of his generation. A man who will be in the all-time GOAT discussion one day, certainly as an in-ring performer.

Paul's goal here was to prove he can hang with Styles and, through nefarious means, he did just that.

This carried a slower pace than the matches it has followed as they were the tactics Paul needed to employ and, sure enough, the crowd did not like it.

A moonsault from Paul showed just how athletic he is. A powerbomb throw was also a nice move. The problem here was that he was in control for far too long.

The sooner you accept this was a coming out party for Paul, the easier it gets. He did show off many impressive moments, but watching this left you wanting more from Styles.

Paul hit Styles with his own finisher in what seemingly suggested the end, but Styles instantly hit him with it too as both men were left lying.

Karrion Kross stopped one of Paul's cronies from handing Paul the brass knuckles, but Styles rejected Kross' offer to use them himself. That ultimately cost the former two-time WWE champion as Paul landed a big punch and his finisher to pick up perhaps his biggest win to date.

RESULT: Logan Paul wins

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez (c) vs Lyra Valkyria and ????

After Bayley pulled out of the contest injured, everyone thought they knew who her partner was going to be, and they were right. Becky Lynch made her way to the ring to a thunderous ovation to stand alongside her compatriot.

Lynch kicked the action off by taking it to the quickly tagged in Rodriguez. Valkyria entered the fray and nailed a drop kick to the outside also on Rodriguez, but when she scaled to the top rope she was thrown off into a kick to turn the tide.

Eventually, Becky got the hot tag and ran through her greatest hits to the delight of the Allegiant Stadium. She had locked in the Dis Arm-Her before Rodriguez broke it up as the match entered the home straight.

A tornodao DDT from Valkyrua to Rodriguez on the outside cleared the way for Lynch to nail Morgan with the Manhandle Slam and crown new Women's Tag Team champions.

RESULT: Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria win the Women's Tag Team Championships

Cena became a record-breaking world champion as he won the title for the 17th time

Cody Rhodes (c) vs John Cena - WWE World Heavyweight Championship

There was a mixed reaction for Rhodes as Alicia Taylor carried out her special introductions, but the atmosphere inside the Allegiant Stadium is on fire for a real main event attraction.

John Cena's final dance at WrestleMania, going for a record 17th world title, captivated the crowd. The match started as tepid and as tense as you'd expect with collar and elbow tie-ups as both men jostled for position.

Cena dominated the first 10 minutes of the match. From chin locks to double axehandles off the top rope, the Hollywood star simply wore down Rhodes to the amusement of the partisan Las Vegas crowd.

Cody finally staged a comeback and delivered a Cody Cutter but when he attempted his father's Bionic Elbow, Cena countered with his STF submission.

Cody fought out, but wound up taking an Attitude Adjustment for a two-count. Cena then delivered another from the top rope - still Cody wouldn't stay down.

Another Attitude Adjustment into the STF further wore down Rhodes, but still the champion would not give. The referee got knocked down as Rhodes fought his way out.

Travis Scott intervened and took a Cross Rhodes, but pulled the referee out the ring to prevent Cena losing. When Rhodes hesitated at hitting Cena with the belt, he received a low blow and a belt to the face. Fans were left stunned as Cena broke the record, becoming a 17-time world champion.
